Japanese company Koei Tecmo revealed the sales numbers of their key titles for the fiscal year that ended on March 31 2016.
Let’s have a look at Koei Tecmo’s latest games and their sales numbers for Japan and Asia as it was revealed a few days ago. The sales are always total sales for all platforms.
Atelier Sophie: Alchemist of the Mysterious Book (PS4, PS Vita, PS3)
After scoring 33/40 in Famitsu, latest main instalment of Gust’s Atelier series sold 170,000 copies after debuting with 68,000 units during the first week in Japan. These numbers are seen as a success and are likely to get even higher when the PS4 and PS Vita versions of the game come to the west on June 7 in North America and on June 10 in Europe.
Attack on Titan (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)
Omega Force’s adaptation of a popular manga/anime had a strong February start, and even outsold Street Fighter V during the first week. The total sales as of end of the fiscal year are said to be 280,000, which is…good.
Of course, the game is being compared with that abomination called Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, which sold more, but received very poor reception. The thing about sales is that Humanity in Chains was released when the anime’s popularity was at its peak.
Moreover, when Koei Tecmo’s Attack on Titan comes to the west, it will also be for Xbox One and Microsoft Windows apart from 3 original platforms, so the potential is huge. The western release date is August 26 in North America and August 30 in Europe.
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 (PS4, PS Vita)
Despite a lot of controversy surrounding DOAX3 (KT ruling out western release because of expected backlash, Play-Asia causing a war on twitter after using a phrase “#SJW nonsense”), it’s already best selling Dead or Alive Xtreme game with 190,000 copies sold in less than a month. Even though Koei Tecmo are not planning to release DOAX3 in the west, I think that the sales from Japan and Asia will be sufficient.
Kiniro no Corda 4 (PS Vita)
Ruby Party’s PS Vita-exclusive (the only one on the list) hit 30,000 units in sales in Japan alone. Western release is unlikely to happen for this otome visual novel.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, PC) – 180,000 sales (Japan, Asia)
Part of the legendary series, Romance of the Three Kingdoms sold 180,000 units on 4 platforms. Apparently, that’s enough for Koei Tecmo, because it has already been confirmed that the PC and PS4 versions of the game would be localized. The dates of release are July 5 in North America and July 8 in Europe. Btw if you are thinking “but it’s on Steam already”, you are right, but that version doesn’t support English.
With 3 of these games having western release dates, and much more new software, most notably Nioh, in development, it looks like Koei Tecmo have a bright future ahead of them.
