Well, it was bound to happen, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeros has been leaked a week before launch and is available for download. Will this hurt sales of the game? Maybe, maybe not, it’s hard to say. On one hand, the game is basically a glorified demo. It has been reported that the main mission can be completed in under 5 minutes if you know exactly what you are doing. If you are new to the Metal Gear series and explore the whole game that can take a couple hours. Still, I’ve played DLC for $10 that’s lasted longer, and MGSV is $30.  Some gamers may feel the $30 price tag is overpriced and decide to pirate the game by downloading it, thus hurting sales.

On the other hand, others may buy the game for their PS4 or Xbox One, and download a backup copy for their PS3 or X360. There may also be some gamers who weren’t planning on buying either MGSV and download the game, then decide to buy the full version, The Phantom Pain, when it is released thus helping sales in the long run. It’s also worth noting since the PS4 and Xbox One haven’t been hacked, piracy may not hurt the game at all. There are plenty of gamers, myself included, that have both a PS3 and PS4, and don’t care about the PS3 version. Personally, I want something to play on my PS4 and since there aren’t many titles available, I would still buy the PS4 version even if I won a PS3 or X360 disc for free. I want MY MGSV in 1080P at 60fps!

What do you think? Will piracy hurt MGSV? Sound off in the comments or in the forums…
