Throwback Thursday: Rocky Rodent

Hey all, I missed my last  throwback Thursday Retro Review but not this time! (Although it may not get published until Friday, as I’m writing this rather late in the evening) We are going to be looking at a rather fun game. Something I feel didn’t get the attention it deserved. Say hello to Rocky Rodent for the Super Nintendo!

Rocky Rodent

Not your ordinary hero

Rocky isn’t your traditional hero. He is a famous dine and dasher who eats, then runs before paying the bill. So I guess he is a villain, or maybe a nuisance. Regardless, Rocky is the hero of this game due to circumstances and an offer he can’t refuse.

Always with the kidnapping!

The game focuses around a restaurant owner’s daughter being kidnapped. He tells Rocky if he saves her he will give him an all you can eat buffet, free of charge. Another owner warns him that’s not a good idea considering how much Rocky can put away. But the owner doesn’t care, he wants his daughter back! So off you go!

A cool hero needs a cool hairstyle.

The game, for the most part, is a side-scrolling platformer but along with Rocky Rodent’s speed (he is fast, just not Sonic The Hedgehog Fast), he finds power in…HAIR?!? As you go through the game you’ll find boxes or cans filled with air styling items such as hair spray or electric trimmers. Each one gives Rocky a different hairstyle and ability. But no worries, you’ll never be stuck somewhere because of your hairstyle. Each level is centered around a type of hair. The first level you’ll have red spikey hair, for example. I am pretty sure you’ll love each one though.

A bit more difficult than your normal retro game

While the game is fun, it is quite difficult at times. You may find yourself cheating to get through it. For the most part, you can relax and just enjoy the game. Not all of it is insanely hard, some levels are quite easy. It seems to be at its worst towards the last couple of stages, so be prepared for that.

At the Finish Line

Overall, the game is fun to play and that’s the most important thing, right? Video games are meant to be fun. Rocky Rodent is definitely that. Here comes the rating… Rocky Rodent for the SNES gets a 7.5/10.

As Always guys, Stay Safe and Happy Gaming!

About Gaarasaiyan

Been gaming since I was 3 years old. I beat SMB for NES when I was 3 and continued to conquer games from then on out. My favorite console of all time would have to be the SNES. My favorite game would be a tie between The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Metal Gear Solid. I used to run support for Hyperkin's Game Genie for PS3 product on their official forums. I also used to write codes for the device. I'm now with another company on another device but I haven't been as involved as I'd liked to be. Time restraints & whatnot. I hope to continue my involvement with the gaming world in any way possible. You can find me on twitter @Gaarasaiyan, on facebook at facebook.com/Gaarasaiyan, and on twitch at twitch.tv/gaarasaiyan Anything else you guys want to know, feel free to ask.
