In just a few days after the release of Suyu, a new Switch emulator based on the source code of Yuzu emulator, the project has already encountered legal issues. Following a DMCA takedown request, the software has been removed from GitLab, where it was hosted.
GitLab has confirmed that they received a DMCA takedown notice from a rightsholder’s representative, and the standard process for such requests was followed. Consequently, the project page has been removed, and all accounts associated with the Suyu project have been locked. Suyu is a fork of the former Yuzu emulator, which Nintendo quickly shut down following legal action.
Despite the developers’ emphasis on the emulator’s anti-piracy stance, and that it was meant to be used only with legitimately backed-up Switch ROMs, it was almost inevitable that any attempts to continue the project would attract attention, given the interest in the Yuzu story. The new Suyu project faced problems, being a fork of the now notorious Yuzu tool.
