Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy – Review

*Note: review may be considered NSFW with a waifu or two. You have been warned*

Waifu and shooters. This is an interesting combination. In the old time period of games, there used to be shooter games that were simple. These were also called space shooters for a time period. However, a developer has decided to add a new spin to the said formula. That includes having NSFW pictures of waifu (by choice) as rewards for saving the damsel in distress. How does this formula hold up? Let’s take a look at our review of Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy.

Intro/story:

From the official website

Rescue waifus from evil magic!

When an evil aging spell infects the garments of 8 beautifully medieval maidens, it falls to the legendary Uma Ninja to protect them. As one of these equine heroes, it’s your duty to destroy the clothing of these cursed damsels before their youthful grace and vigor are stolen forever! Using magic to miniaturize and face the diminutive demonic forces behind this threat, the Uma Ninja rush into battle for the sake of love and valor!

Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy is a vertical shoot’em up experience that’s easy to play and addictive to master. Choose a hero and power up your ship as you blast through malicious monsters, collect gems and destroy infected clothing. Between stages, purchase items or permanent upgrades and listen to gossip from the mysterious shopkeeper. Then decide which maiden you’ll attempt to rescue next, perhaps discovering a few alluring secrets along the way.

The story is a simple story which the game honestly just uses as a plot device to move the game along. Honestly, the plot makes sense but it really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things in Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy. Not much else really to mention beyond that.

Gameplay:

Gameplay is as basic as it comes, and it actually works for this type of game. It is a shoot’em up where players will shoot throw each stage. The objective is simple, shoot as many enemies as you can, collect the gems they drop to a predetermined number, and repeat. Collecting these gems to the criterion amount will “destroy” the cursed clothing. This will “strip” the waifus’ cursed gear and free them from the evil spell. Once the waifus are fully stripped, players will fight the boss of each stage.  In between stages, players can upgrade their ships with the gems they collected in the previous stage.

Up to a certain point, this will unlock new ships for players to use as they replay the game. Eventually, players will unlock the “uncensored” mode. When the waifus are stripped, their naughty bits are strategically censored. In uncensored mode, the waifus go completely topless. The crotch area is still covertly censored. Once the uncensored modes are unlocked, players can switch at any time.

The gameplay is so simple, that the developers even included a one-hand mode. Everything could be done via one hand. I am sure there is an ulterior use of this, but my point is that the gameplay is simple to the point it all can be mapped to one hand. That is the gem of Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy. Gameplay works because it is really simple.

Visual/audio:

Visually, the game has some interesting artwork. It fits the overall theme of “medieval” times. The censored and uncensored artwork is well done too. Enemy designs are creative and not creative all the same. Overall it is well done to the degree of lewdness, and fitting the overall theme.

Audio-work, it’s really not the best out there and gets the job done… barely. Music doesn’t seem to fit, the voice work is minimal at best, and that is about it. It is the weakest point of the game.

Wrap-up/conclusion:

Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy is a nice small game that is a fun distraction. The lewd factor is rather well done. The game won’t win any awards, but it is a fun distractor. It has some replayability, but once everything is unlocked, that is it. There is nothing else to do in Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy except just to enjoy the game. There is also a gallery mode to look at your pictures unlocked. However, this was broken for me when I played, I could not see anything uncensored.

All and all, it is fun for what it is. However, it is not much. Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy is the 2nd game in a series. We will see what the third game will hold when it comes out. This developer has a track record of releasing lewd games so I am almost confident we will see a Waifu Discovered 3. I will be there for it as well.

Until next time, mgs2master2 out!
