The MegaSD: World’s First all-in-one FPGA Flashcart for Sega Genesis & Mega Drive!!

The company Terraonion has announced the world’s first Mega-CD/Sega CD FPGA Optical Disc Emulator flashcart called the MegaSD. The MegaSD is an all-in-one FPGA cartridge that duplicates the Sega CD/Mega-CD hardware, which allows users to play there Sega CD backup games right from a microSD card. The MegaSD also is a general purpose flashcart allowing the use of Mega Drive and Genesis roms (cartridge games backups).

The Mega SD works on all three Genesis/Mega Drive revisions, Nomad, and Analogue Mega Sg. You read it correctly, the Sega Nomad is supported and can now play Sega CD games thanks to the Mega SD but you will have to do two simple modification to the Nomad that requires you to reconnect the cartridge audio line and SMS functionality. What would be really nice is, if the new MegaSD would work on the new Sega Genisis mini that’s coming out this year. Now that would be great but one can only hope that’s it compatible.
