PS2 HD Retrovision Component cable Review!

For a while now I have been looking for a solution to play my PlayStation 2 system on my modern TV with an HD converter to upscale the signal to 480p or 720p. Sadly the Ps2 made its plunge in an era when there was no such thing as HDMI, 4K or LED TVs. Unlike the N64 which had RGB and HDMI mods, the PS2 was not an option for that 😔. The only other alternative was a BC PS3 and we all know that those are ticking time bombs. So what are my options?

Well, legend has it is that the component cables are the number one option for playing your PS2 on a modern HD Televisions. These cables are not hard to find, you can search up these cables on Amazon or go to you local Gamestop to pick one up. I wasn’t satisfied with mediocre component cables and some other alternatives such as the Frameister and the OSSCC converter box was way out of my budget.

So during my search, I came across a couple of reviews on YouTube in regards to the PS2 Retrovision cables. The cables is developed by  HD retrovision and is sold by Castlemania games. At first, I was skeptical because they were still in the same field as the other component cables that was out there, so I said to myself let me give these babies a try. I ordered a pair off of Amazon for $29.99, now I know what you thinking- $29.99 for component cables is a lot of chips! But these cables are really impressive, very thick and sturdy in quality. Not only do they work for the PS2 but they also work for the PS3 as well.

HD retrovision is a company that specializes in playing your consoles on modern Tv’s so I was ok with the price and the overall quality. Anyways I connected the cables to my Samsung LED and boy was I impressed with the clear crisp quality, I threw a couple of titles at it such as Bully, Resident Evil: Code Veronica X and Grand theft auto 3. All of them showed good quality with the cables. The only setting I had to tinker with on my TV was the brightness, that was it!

The PS2 HD Retrovision cable is a great option for those that don’t want to spend a hefty amount of money for component cables or other alternative solutions, the Retrovision cables do the job just fine. I also tested these cables on some PS1 titles and the quality of the image was very bad. But it is listed on the cable that it is only for PS2/PS3, but I since the PS2 is Backwards compatible I thought why not give it a try😉.

Keep a lookout on other converter cables from Castlemania games and HD retrovision, such as the recent impressive Retrovision cables for the genesis and the Snes. If you are interested in picking one up, you can purchase directly from Castlemaniagames.com or at Amazon.

P.S: make sure you select Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr if you are using the component cables.
