First look at Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir and its latest trailer for the PS4, PS3, & PSVita

Releasing next year on January 14th for a Japan only release, Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir will be out for all current Sony consoles. Not just a simple HD port, this remake revamps the much beloved PS2 Odin Sphere to match the tastes contemporary audiences.odin-sphere-leifdrasir-japanese-435559.8

Originally out in 2007, players were blown away by the former as it set the precedent for any 2D game to follow, as well as set the standard of this genre for the time. As RPG that presented itself so beautifully with a melodramatic multiple POV story that matched the complex hand drawn art, here we had a living and breathing universe with giant sprites and even bigger themes.odin-sphere-leifdrasir-japanese-435559.4

And while it was it easy for gamers to become entranced into this illustrated dream, there were however, a few technical setbacks which did detract from the original experience, but in this HD remake, major enhancements have been made on both the combat system and general gameplay system for a smoother and faster experience. As well, revealed so far, there will be HD visuals and a slew of new content in the form of enemies, bosses, animations, battle actions, and stages.

For those already reeling from the nostalgia of this announcement, Odin Sphere’s original 2D gameplay is also available through a selectable “Classic Mode.”odin-sphere-leifdrasir-japanese-435559.5

So far, there’s been no mention of a localized release, but with the successes of the recent and previous Vanillaware titles like Muramasa: Rebirth and Dragon’s Crown, we’ll be sure to hear more as it gets revealed. In the meantime, we’ll just have to be content with watching this the stunning first trailer over and over again!
