Naughty Dog collaborator Nolan North, famously known for his voice acting of the Uncharted series hero Nathan Drake, commented during a Q&A at MetroCon,
“For now, the last one, I know they’re doing The Last of Us 2 but my character met an untimely demise.”
This reveal came to the surface after a fan asked North a question with regards to his current or upcoming projects with the studio.
This information from North can be backed up by developer Michael Knowland’s LinkedIn profile which stated that he had worked for at least a month on The Last of Us 2.
Aside from casually revealing the development of The Last of Us 2, Nolan North is a gift that keeps on giving. He additionally commented that Naughty Dog had also scrapped eight months of work on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
North also commented on a new Star Wars game which is being developed by former Naughty Dog developer, Amy Hennig at Visceral, which he describes as a mix of Star Wars and Uncharted.
At the MetroCon panel (check the YouTube video at the 1hour, 6 minutes and 30 seconds mark), before it was all over, North casually dropped a reveal bomb that Naughty Dog is working on The Last of Us 2.
In an interview February last year with Eurogamer, Neil Druckmann had commented that a sequel to the game had a 50/50 chance of being made.
“We just wrapped up Left Behind, and Bruce Straley, the game director, and I have been doing this for over four years now. So it’s just time for a break, and to recharge the batteries.”
“We have started brainstorming some stuff. To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP – we’ve spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP.”
The Last of Us lead actor Troy Baker during a panel at Indy PopCon last weekend commented,
“I know nothing. I don’t know if we’re gonna do another one or not. If we do, then I trust Neil [Druckmann, creative director] and Bruce [Straley, game director] and everyone else at Naughty Dog to tell a story that needs to be told.”
“You know, spoiler, when you go from the prologue and then credits and then cut to 20 years later, you see a completely different guy.”
So what do you think, can we expect to see The Last of Us 2? We all know that Naughty Dogs current project Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, won’t be released until Spring 2016. We also know that Naughty Dog like to take lengthy couple year breaks in between game releases (which speaks to the quality of their games), so we probably won’t be seeing anything TLOU2 related until 2017.
Which means that the game could possible be slated for a 2018 or 2019 release as a PS4 exclusive.
