How to Active the Playstation TV & run TN-V

The PSTV just got released today and it’s on firmware 3.20, (yeah 3.20), but there’s nothing special about firmware 3.20 other than it mimics 318. When you first get the PlayStation TV you’re going to be surprised how small it really is.

Now let’s get to the meat and potatoes, which you actually don’t have much time to do this with as the method that I’m using will probably be patched in the next few hours. (or you can use your PS3 to Active it) This is what I did to get my PS TV activated and online.

First I downloaded Vita update blocker (you can down it here) then I went over to the PS TV and switched it to use a proxy, just like Charles proxy.

You will sign to your PSN account but the PS TV is still not activated. In the setting you will not be able to activate the PS TV. What you’re going to have to do is actually go to the PlayStation Store or use a PS3 and download a game, that you’ve already purchased (small one like a mini). Once the game installs, your PS TV will be activated and ready to rock roll. Now you’re on firmware 3.20 and your still able to use TN-V,TN-X or Ark2.0. Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy all the fun stuff.

To do this with a PS3  follow these step below,

Activating and Linking a PSVita, Playstation TV or Vita TV With a PS3

This is a highly unknown trick and can save you a lot of trouble and stress. This trick is especially useful if you happen to reset your Vita or buy a new one. If you need to just activate, follow and skip to part 2 (however if that doesnt work for some reason try redoing it but by following both parts.)

Part 1

(Linking your PSN account)
Power off your Vita completely
Push and hold the PS Logo Button + the R shoulder Button + the Power Button (make sure that the DS3 or DS4 is plugged in the usb slot when going to safe mode). Hold them for a few seconds, till the screen goes on and the recovery menu appears.Select option 4. Restore the PS Vita System.Wait till the Vita boots up again and follow the instructions till it asks you if you would like to link your Vita with your PSN Account. Do this now because it’s the only way to avoid the update.

Part 2 (Activating your PSvita)
1. To activate you simply need to download any game that you’ve bought previously (or get a new one) with the PSN account thats tied to your PSVita, PStv or Vita TV on the PS3 with the method above using vita blocker..

2. Using your PS3 and Vitablocker, to transfer any game over to your PSTVand install it. Launching the game will then activate your PSTV with your account.

  1. Thanks for the tip.

Is this 3.20 update possible to apply to Vita TVs too? like offline upgrade with usb stick. Wish i can get the update file.

    • No vita TV as 3.20 was pre installed to the PlayStation TV so there’s no way to get the pup file. Plus if you want to play some of the good and popular games it looks like you’re going to have to update the 330 no matter what. if you bought it to play vita games.

  2. Using it as an emulation box would be much better. also i am an offline gamer, so my vita cartridges will do fine on 3.20 Playstation TV. Plus not much new good games are coming to Vita.

PS1 Loader and TN-V on it would be a dream, it would finally give a rest to my psp go + cradle + component cables + DS3 combo.

  3. so ps vita tv on 3.20 would only run homebrews/cso/backups but not ps1 games?

  4. hey talkman travel tokyo doesnt work which game shoud i get for tnv

  5. Have they already patched this? I got to download a game I already bought and I’m getting error (NW-10743-5)
No error message saying what it is follows.

  6. Once our TN-V is running, how do we install homebrew like filer 6.6 and ftp for vita?

    • Just like you would on the PlayStation Vita put it into a zip folder and put it into the game save. Then load tnv and install the zip file with whatever you zip up in it

  7. I’m $#%$ed lol I hope I can still do this when my PSTV arrives..

  8. Proxy methods are not working anymore 🙁

Is there any other way to do it?

    • You can always try activating and linking a PS Vita (PS3 Required)

  9. I am getting my pstv tomorrow hopefully. It would be nice if the PS3 option works. I just want psp loading for decent big-screen psp playback

  10. can i still login to PSN even my PS3 system is cfw?

  11. Ps3 method made me try to update. Guess I’ll never get this borderlands vita up and running.

  12. Thanks. I’ll try it when I get home.

  13. Tried it. I’m having trouble with open CMA not connecting to my vita. USB charging is off and I’m on few 3.15. I refuse to upgrade though. Someday I’ll figure this out.

    • Make sure you hard restart the psvita as the update pup sit in it once it touch’s the internet.

Using Content Manager on a lower firmware and without an internet connection

The official CMA (Content Manager Assistant) for the computer from Sony doesn’t allow you to use it on a lower firmware or without internet thus blocking you from being able to copy content to your Vita. In addition it also contacts Sony’s servers exchanging information about you which pretty much invades your privacy. Most of you by now should be aware of the solution to this, Open CMA.

So what exactly is Open CMA? Open CMA is the same as the official Sony version but modified, so that you can copy files without any internet connection unlike the official Sony CMA which requires a constant internet connection to the Sony Servers. It will also not sneak a patch or do a forced firmware update on your device if one comes out and it will not send any data to Sony or their servers about whats being copied, edited, and transferred. Open CMA also does not collect data regarding crashes.

So to install Open CMA, you’ll need to first download it, there are two versions to compensate for a block that Sony incorporated in earlier firmwares. (Note: Open CMA is right now for PC only, but will be posted for Linux and OSX soon.)

    • Also try this method.. Having problems with opencma or qcma try this link here: http://hackinformer.com/2014/04/16/a-different-way-to-transfer-games-to-psvita-ps3/

  14. The activation method via linking to PS3 worked for me. however, it still throws error when trying to sign into PSN via Vita Update Blocker v1.2

Question: are you supposed to disable proxy settings after the initial login attempt to PSN?

    • yes but you will be prompt to update so be careful. As you won’t be able to use PSN anymore but if a game wont work on the PlayStation TV that supposed to you can just refresh it in the live area.

  15. Alright. Finally got it working with qcma. Thanks for all the help man. I was worried I’d have to just bite the bullet and update.

  16. So there’s really no way to sign in to pan without updating? That’s fine with me. I got what I wanted on there.

  17. So what do I have to do now?
Bought a PS VITA TV, OFW 3.20 on it.
I have a PS3 on 4.66. How do i activate? I haven’t started my pstv yet, but i know that in Austria there is 3.20 on it. On my PS3 i can download the free PSVITA games because i’m a PS+ Member. Can i transfer one of them?

    Second question.
I never had a Vita, so i don’t know how to get the TN-V running. I read about games with exploit save files. No idea what to do.

  18. Hi everyone.. I would jusg like to check if this method still working..

    • Yup just need a ps3 or one of the new exploit that have been pulled from the store.

      • thank you sir. would this method work for a new psvita or ps vita tv? i have an exploitable game but im planning to buy a new vita and vita tv. thank you for all your help 🙂

        • Installing TN-V works up to 3.18/3.20 for PSTV only and you will need to use a PS3 for transfering the exploit game. But you can install ARK/TN-C on 3.36 of course!

  19. Hi everyone…

Is it possible to link an US 3.20 PSTV with an EU PSN account?

    Cheers!
