Every year at E3 XBOX is the one company that really tries to wow us. They try to get us with hardware and first party exclusives. They tell us about new features that these hardware products come with. XBOX even goes so far as to try to remind us that PlayStation doesn’t have said exclusives. Or maybe they tell us that they’re getting the games that PlayStation has had for so long. But they really try to make a spectacle of it all. Was this year any different? Let’s discuss the highlights.

  • Halo Infinite-The trailer showed off an in engine trailer. The trailer started by showing off more of the world Chief is on and wildlife that are featured in the game. Clearly to show off the power of the XBOX One X. They stressed that it’s a Master Chief-centric story. They said it’s his biggest adventure yet and he will be saving humanity.

  • Lots of Games-50 games, 18 of which are exclusives, and of them are 15 world premieres! Here we go.
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps-You are an adorable glowing character in this forthcoming platformer. It looks so much like Rayman Legends gameplay in the actual scenes of gameplay footage. But the character can melee up close or shoot arrows from afar.  It’s coming out in 2019.

  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice-A new FromSoftware game and is published by Activision. A story of an older samurai character. It looks very much like a Dark Souls or Bloodbourne type game. Difficult with loads of disgusting creature types. You apparently can’t die though and when you get killed you appear more powerful for a time.

  • Fallout(s)-Fallout 4 is coming to Game Pass today. Fallout 76 is a prequel to the whole series. It’s 4 times larger than Fallout 4! They show a trailer of an armored person witnessing a nuclear explosion from an older trailer. Then it continues into a present day trailer that is very similar to the trailer from a week ago. They show extra stuff like tons of new locations as it takes place nearer the original colonies. You can preorder the game on June 15th in the XBOX Store. No official release date given though.

  • The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit-A new game from Dontnod that features a new story for the Life is Strange universe. A 10 year old boy in a single parent household. His dad is drinking early in the morning. But the kid has tons of imagination and so we play in his world that he uses to forget about the tough times. Download it for free on June 26th.

  • Crackdown 3-Shows how you can get powerups to grow in size standard, larger, and biggest. YOu can get transformable weapons. There are vehicles you can use to drive around and up walls. There is no fall damage in this game. You have loads of bad guys coming at you in ships and mechs.

  • Nier Automata: Become as Gods-Rereleased with all DLC and optimized for XBOX One X!

  • Metro Exodus-A new trailer where it shows that we travel the countryside in a single car train with a group of men. It shows us more than last year. Our weapons appear to be fully customizable from the clip to the scopes to other features. The world is clearly much larger. Its part exploration game mixed with an FPS. February 22nd, 2019!

  • Kingdom Hearts III-They show off more of Wreck it Ralph, Tangled, Frozen, and other Disney CGI movies as well as traveling in the Gummy Ship. Hercules is back again as well as going into Andy’s Room in Toy Story. There is tons of voice overs and nice lengthy dialogue. Mickey makes an appears and so do characters from Birth by Sleep!

  • Sea of Thieves-Just a tone piece reminding us that the game exists and that there is new DLC coming. The Forsaken Shores are shown. It’s a volcano ridden island that is overtaken by an ancient evil. That comes out in September. The other comes out in July, but they didn’t focus on it.

  • Battlefield V-EA told us yesterday that Anthem would be featured more on the XBOX stage and it was. It’s more of the single player campaign aspect that they focused on. It didn’t really reveal much.

  • Forza Horizon 4-Forza game showing off the British countryside. Nice cars are show racing at plenty of locations around the world. You can also tell that they’re focusing on weather dynamically changing. Sunny, rainy, snowing, muddy, animals in the road. Nothing else seems to be new, but the sheer amount of locations and car types racing together is ungodly! This includes motorcycles, dirt bikes, and some kind of watercraft?! They play the game live to show off the differentiating cars, weather/seasons, and tracks. Britain is a shared open world, just like an open world RPG, except racing. The game runs at 60 FPS on the XBOX One X and it looks good. They said it’s still incredibly fun on the previous XBOX Ones. You can enter co-op at any time if you’d like. Or you can easily play alone so that you can do whatever you’d like. There are different challenges for each natural season, meaning the game is really four games in one! October 2nd on Windows 10 and XBOX One as well as XBOX Game Pass on the same day.

  • New Studios-A new Santa Monica studio from Microsoft. They also bought Undead Labs due to their imaginative way that they built a zombie survival. They also bought Playground Games. But the biggest jaw dropping news was that they bought Ninja Theory. Lastly, they mentioned that they bought Compulsion Games. They created We Happy Few that will be officially releasing soon. Microsoft wants to be more like PlayStation by owning studios to create jaw dropping exclusives.

  • We Happy Few-The game clearly has been dramatically improved the game from what they showed us last year. The story has been fixed and there is better dialogue. But they didn’t really show the gameplay. The release date is August 10th, 2018.

  • PUBG-Microsoft has another trailer for it attempting to reinvigorate everyone’s ambition to play the game. They have new locations that the PC has had that are finally coming out this year. It didn’t which month at all, just that it was coming out this winter. There are new modes and new environments and new gameplay mechanics.

  • Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition-That’s right, one of the original JRPG’s on the XBOX is making a return fully remastered.

  • The Division 2-A game that shows off that a virus dropped America off the map. Survivors do what they can to survive and protect themselves with guns and giant walls. All of which we already knew from the previous game. Nothing really new is shown. Then the gameplay trailer is showing that the virus fell before Christmas and sometime around Black Friday. The gameplay looks about the same as the first game. There is less winter weather in this game. The weapons appear to me more customizable that previously as well as much more destructive environments. This apparently also includes destructive armor! Releasing March 15th, 2019.

  • XBOX Game Pass-The Game Pass will be twice as fast to start games. It will only get faster as time goes on and it learns how we use the program. It will be available in the June update later this month! Master Chief Collection, Forza Horizon 4, and Crackdown 3 Ashen, and more will be coming to it as well. Today we’ll see The Division, Fallout 4, and The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited go live!

  • ID@XBOX-This segment shows Outer Wilds, Afterparty, Kingdom:Two Crowns, Golf Club 2019, Warhammer Verminitide, Fringe Wars, Below, Conquerer’s Blade, Waking, Rai:An Ancient Epic, Super Meat Boy Forever, Planet Alpha, Islands of Nyne, Sable, Harold Halibut, Bomber Crew, Children of Morta, The Wind Road, WarGroove, Generation Zero, Dead Cells, and Ashen.

  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider-This one looks more like Tomb Raider from the PS1 mixed with Uncharted. A great story line, great looking facial animations, fantastic emotional moments, and pure exploration. She can be far more stealthy with mud wearing. September 14th, 2018.

  • Session-A new skateboarding, which we haven’t seen in a long time. There wasn’t much shown off in the gameplay department.

  • Black Desert:An MMORPG-A game that looks like a Fable or Final Fantasy stand in. You’re after the Black Stone in the Glass Desert. There world is very traversable and ridden with hordes of knights and soldiers as well as mythical beasts.

  • Devil May Cry 5-A new game from Capcom…They brought back short, white haired Dante. It’s nice to see a new sequel from Capcom. Dante is as flexible and charming as he’s always been. He has a new arm attachment for new abilities. The demons in this game look bigger and stronger than before, introducing new challenges. He is getting revenge for losing his arm. An end piece is shown with a long, white haired person riding a motorcycle into the scene. The game is highly visual using XBOX One X.

  • Cuphead– DLC is coming for the cookie 2D game. featuring a new female character named Miss Chalice! The level is called The Delicious Last Course. Coming in 2019.

  • Tunic-An adorable small fox character, very reminiscent of Link from the old isometric Legend of Zelda games. But this one looks very tried and true. Heck, you can even chop down plants and crack open pots.

  • Jump Force-It’s a new Bandai Namco game. It’s a fully rendered game featuring One Piece clashing with Naruto and DBZ characters. My guess is that it’s exclusively a fighting game with no other mechanics. But it looks good and it’s fully 3D. It showed characters from Deathnote and Persona.

  • Dying Light 2-Yet another post apocalyptic looking game, but you already knew that. Except this one makes it look like it’s literally the Dark Ages with knights and peasant looking characters. Not to mention I saw heads on spikes. An interesting aesthetic to choose. Your choices make the world change. But the gameplay seems to be about the same. Forage during the day and do what you can, fight the zombies. You can choose challenges and missions to help you gain more resources. The guy talking did just say that they call this era “the modern Dark Ages”, so I wasn’t crazy! They show a gameplay demo of course featuring lots of parkour.

  • Battletoads-Coming to Windows 10 and XBOX One. A teaser showing that Battletoads is coming! 3 player co-op with 4K graphics in 2.5D. Coming in 2019!

  • Just Cause 4-The game shows we’re against the Black Hand. New weather attributes like tornados. New vehicles all around as well as missiles from your back. It shows him in buggys, jetskis, and muscle cars. Coming December 4th, 2018.

  • Gears of War-Pop Figures are coming soon featuring characters across the whole franchise. They will be in a mobile game. Additionally, there is a turn based game coming to PC set 12 years before the first game. Gears Tactics is the title. They also announced Gears of War 5, still being worked on. They still showed off the game. They show Kate in a civilized area of their world noticing that someone special to her died. Our main character has been updated and looks more like his father. Marcus Fenix is shown in full armor, so my guess is he is playable. Gameplay is shown with more baddies and updated older ones. Releasing in 2019.

  • Cloud Gaming-It’s coming to your phone too, console quality. They’re clearly trying to compete with the Nintendo Switch. That’s coming soon.
  • Next XBOX-They announced the next XBOX without saying what it is or anything else about it. Simply stating that they’re working on it.

  • Cyberpunk 2077-This game was finally shown off, three years after showing it off originally. It’s a future America clearly. It looks like a game that’s a mixture of Metal Gear Solid, Blade Runner, Witcher, and GTA.
