B.S. ? Detector Is Here To Save You From Fake News??

Today I would like to share some information on a new plugin that tries to spot fake and not-so-trustworthy news on the net. It’s called the B.S. ? Detector, it’s the work of self-agency and is in response to the claims that Mark Zuckerberg stated wherein Facebook is unable to substantively address the proliferation of fake news on its platform.cyt9rqouuaao9e0

Thus enter the B.S. ? Detector? It’s a browser extension/plugin for Chrome and Mozilla-based browsers. The B.S. Detector searches all links on a given web page for references to unreliable sources, checking against a manually compiled list of domains. It then provides visual warnings about the presence of questionable links or the browsing of questionable websites.alert720jpg

According to self-agency the info is somewhat indiscriminately compiled from various sources around the web but who knows what is good or bad sometimes. They actively review this dataset, categorizing entries, and removing misidentified domains. They say it can not guarantee complete accuracy of their data at the moment (weird, yeah right) and you can view the complete list here. What makes them know any better and could be bypass too or whatever.

Domain classifications include:

  • Fake News: Sources that fabricate stories out of whole cloth with the intent of pranking the public.
  • Satire: Sources that provide humorous commentary on current events in the form of fake news.
  • Extreme Bias: Sources that traffic in political propaganda and gross distortions of fact.
  • Conspiracy Theory: Sources that are well-known promoters of kooky conspiracy theories.
  • Rumor Mill: Sources that traffic in rumors, innuendo, and unverified claims.
  • State News: Sources in repressive states operating under government sanction.
  • Junk Science: Sources that promote scientifically dubious claims.
  • Hate Group: Sources that actively promote racism, misogyny, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination.

If there are any sites you recommend adding or removing, or if you object to your site being listed, you can file a report here.

This is a good step in the right direction since, according to techcrunch.com, A Stanford study found that the majority of middle school students can’t tell the difference between real news and fake news.

This is a major problem that now, and this plugin tries to help identify the truth in the news we read but who’s to say this list is any good.

You can check this plugin by going here or here

Thanks for reading and keep doing it for the love of the game.

  1. Right, and we’re supposed to trust whoever made this extension to decide for us what is and isn’t fake? I’d rather do my own research, thank you very much.

    • Stopped reading at:
Hate Group: Sources that actively promote racism, misogyny, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination.

  2. Infowars seems very trust worthy, Especially Paul Joseph Watson, so screw who ever made this

    • Dead on Rowjack1993, Infowars has been exposing the corruption for years, they left him alone because they thought no one was listening. Now everyone is listening and it scares the hell out of the establishment.

  3. it is a good way to see whats out there since there are lots of lies and tricks on the net. Also Infowars can be very misleading when its not giving the whole story so its better to just check up on what you read and not just take it all at face value. Also this extension is is just a way to help it doesnt mean that it will always be right or wrong but will help you find the real truth in a world filled with false truths.

  4. The problem is, you can’t protect people from propaganda/fake news if it confirms their biases. I couldn’t imagine how anyone could take the hysterics of Alex Jones seriously, but if people want to believe Obama is Satan, they’ll believe it, and fiercely reject any suggestions to the contrary.

There are a lot of nuts in this country. Ordinary people are going to have to stand up to them, and mainstream media outlets need to start showing some backbone, instead of accepting the nuts’ attempt to put a happy face on humanity’s worst impulses. It’s not “alt-right,” it’s white supremacy.

    • It’s true that he oversensationalizes and is over the top, but if you’re willing to take the opinions with a grain of salt, you will find that the presented facts are true and can generally not be found on mainstream news sites.

  5. Welcome Brothers and Sisters to the OCEANIA where everything is Double Good, and No Hate Speak here. Get your New edition from the Ministry of Truth or the Ministry of Love will pay you a visit.

  6. Mainstream media is also fake news so they should add cnn, msnbc, msn, abc etc etc. And whoever doesn’t know, Abraham Lincoln was the last real president of the United States, the rest are now working with the establishment. Keep switching presidents so they won’t get caught with their agenda. So whoever said obama is the devil, close but you can say the same of past presidents. Need to find who pulls the strings of the puppet presidents. Go alex jones, he acts kinda nuts but info is spot on at times.

  7. The Propaganda is spreading here too, not surprised. All big websites are influenced somehow, sellouts.

  8. Extreme Bias: Sources that traffic in political propaganda and gross distortions of fact.

    and then shortly afterwards

Hate Group: Sources that actively promote racism, misogyny, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination.

Because no one is EVER falsely called any of those things ever.
and its totally not fact that 99.9% of whats “Racist” or “Homophobic” is actually not rigght?
