Now the 3DS console conversions are becoming technically more powerful than normal. We have already seen this happen with Resident Evil: Revelations and Castlevania, but we do however find it hard to accept this type of transaction.

One Piece Unlimited World Red was originally released on the Nintendo 3DS in November 2013 in Japan, but Namco Bandai has decided to take it even on Vita, Wii U and PlayStation 3 at the launch of the Pal version. What we are going to review the PS3 version is just that, of course, despite having been retouched still shows most of the limitations arising from portable sources.

In One Piece Unlimited World Red once again puts players in the shoes of Straw Hat Luffy, is now engaged in the difficult fight against the dreaded Red Count, a character created by Eiichiro Oda specifically for the game.

In the course of the campaign Luffy is forced to face the fearsome pirate with the powers granted to that vampire from the fruit of the devil Batto Batto, but fortunately can count on the tanuki Pato and Yadoya, two other new characters created authors.0

The campaign can be played in split-screen with a friend a detail that adds a good dose of fun to the whole package.

The rest of the crew that we have come to know and love in the original manga will be released gradually over the course of history. Gradually, the characters will be unlocked you will be able to form a more balanced party with which to address the historical settings of the series, with gameplay somewhat similar to that of musou come out in recent years.

While maintaining an action game features environments with smaller dimensions than those of Pirate Warriors 2 and, especially, populated by a number of enemies drastically lower.

This does not mean that the fights are easier, since to bring home the skin is still necessary to adequately exploit the ability of the various characters, especially during boss battles. By pressing the Select key, also, you can switch at any time by an attacker to another, so as to exploit the characteristics and the attacks that distinguish it.

The change of character is even more important during exploration, since depending on the selected hero can interact with specific elements of the layers to find the many hidden collectibles around the game world.

Among the various combos in the game there are also some which provide for the collaboration of multiple characters for the execution of devastating attacks in tags.

In some respects the experience guaranteed to One Piece Unlimited World Red is versatile and attractive. The move away from the kind of Musou has allowed developers to include a wide range of gameplay elements, some more successful than others.

Interacting with the character of Yadora, for example, it is possible to carry out a kind of management that involves the expansion of the town called Trans Town and the addition of a large number of key points as you go along with the company.

For this you go to support a wide variety of mini-games that actually have very little to do with the world of One Piece, but that adds extra plugs at the full picture.

Unlimited World Red allows the player to pass the time dedicated to fishing or hunting insects, all with a very simple structure along the lines of music games. To get good results you should not do is press the buttons that appear on the screen making sure to do so with the timing required by the interface on the screen.

One Piece Unlimited World Red: a look at the mode Battle Coliseum

The real heart of the game, however, is represented from exploration, suitably marked by narrative sequences (often characterized by simple static images). It is in these phases that the portable nature of the title emerges forcefully, showing locations remains and washed-out colors.

Through these levels poorly defined characters move slowly and showing off animations do not always live up to, from time to time facing opponents that you parry in front of and relying on a handful of combos and attacks inspired by the anime.

The most exciting moments are the boss battles, both for the good design of some of the challenges for the excellent cleaning job done on polygonal models of the most beloved by the public. Being once again face to face with Lucci, Crocodile, Ener and other historical names of the series can not fail to please, especially if the quality of the clashes is able to do justice to the experience.

Whereas in this action soul joins a smattering of RPG elements, the end result is pretty good, especially for diehard fans that the title is addressed. Among other things, an animated movie, and, in fact, you can change the statistics of the various characters by matching each pirate “words” collected in different areas of the game.

The new characters created by Oda are quite interesting, both from the point of view of design and psychologically.

These enhancements fall into three categories (Skill, Customization and Subject) and essentially allow you to alter the stats of the characters, to obtain specific effects after consumption of the word in question, or to strengthen the special abilities to exploit in combat.

After completing the main campaign finally unlock the Battle Coliseum mode, which allows you to deal with dozens of opponents in a duel one on one is that in chaotic battles all against all, where the action tends to get really confused too.

The fact that this mode reproduces perfectly the Colosseum in Dressrosa provides a great impact to the fans, as well as the chance to face the battles in the company of a friend in an attempt to win the coveted title of Winner of the Colosseum.

Despite the technical difficulties due to its origins laptops, One Piece Unlimited World Red is a title that fans of the work of Oda can not fail to appreciate, especially thanks to the brand new story arc guaranteed by the collaboration of the author.

If you are looking for a title that allows you to expand the universe of One Piece with a history of quality, this could be the purchase that best suits your needs, as long as you are willing to turn a blind eye to a realization approximate technique and a general lack of variety. If, however, you want a game of One Piece fast, frenetic and technically valid, the obvious choice is always Pirate Warriors 2.
